The course includes consideration of sonata, symphony, concerto, opera, and song, particularly in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. It emphasizes stylistic examination of early Classicism, Classicism, and Romanticism in relation to social and cultural history. The course considers the work of Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schumann, Berlioz, Liszt, Wagner, Debussy, Stravinsky, and Schoenberg, among others.
